Souhrn: Článek odpovídá na položenou otázku jednoznačně kladně. Diabetolog, vzdělaný na lékařské fakultě v interně a v interní propedeutice, i za situace, kdy byl opuštěn požadavek interní atestace I. stupně před atestací z interní subspecializace (kardiologie, gastroenterologie, diabetologie atd.) a nahrazen „interním kmenem“, by měl být schopen na základě anamnézy, fyzikálního vyšetření a vyžádaných laboratorních a instrumentálních vyšetření minimálně vyslovit podezření na srdeční selhání. To může dále konzultovat s internistou (který zná celou interní medicínu) nebo s kardiologem. Článek se dále věnuje i možnému podílu diabetologa na sledování a léčbě diabetika se srdečním selháním.

Can a diabetologist recognize (and treat) heart failure in his office?
Summary: The article answers the question in title in affirmative positive way. Diabetologist, educated, at least, at the Faculty of Medicine in internal medicine and in internal propedeutics, even in a situation, when Board of Internal Medicine, grade I was replaced by so called „internal stem“ – exam of limited demands – as prerogative for further subspecialisation of internal medicine (Board of Cardiology, of Gastroenterology, of Diabetology, etc), should be capable, on the base of properly performed and evaluated history, physical examination and requested laboratory and instrumental investigations (ECG, X ray chest, TTE etc) to express, at least, a suspicion of heart failuire (acute or chronic).This may be further consulted with cardiologist. This article further tacles a role of diabetologists in further follow up and treatment of heart failure in diabetic patients.
